New COVID-19 alert Level 2

Government has announced that as of  11:59pm Sunday 14 February, Auckland will move to Alert Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand including Christchurch will move to Alert Level 2 until 12 midnight, Wednesday 17 February. 

Attandance for this event is under 100 people so we expect it to continue as planned. The safety or attendees is our priority. Seating will be spread out appropriately. Check this page or Eventbrite for updates before the event.


Join SGWN for a light lunch and engaging kōrero as speaker, Jo Neilson, shares her experiences with challenging stereotypes, fighting bias, broadening perceptions, improving situations and celebrating inclusion and diversity.

Jo is a former star of Les Belle Boys, and one of the Playgirls All Male Revue. She is a transgender activist, author and broadcaster. She has a strong background in media and broadcasting spanning 20 years on the airwaves, and will be sharing her LGBTI journey.

About the speaker

Joanne Neilson is a former star of Les Belle Boys, and one of the Playgirls All Male Revue. She is a transgender activist, author and broadcaster.

Joanne has been actively engaged in a broad network of LGBTQI support and advocacy organisations and project-oriented community groups such as Agender (National President and Chairperson), Q-Topia and Christchurch Pride.

She has a strong background in media and broadcasting ranging from three years as a Christchurch reporter for the successful Queer Nation series and over 20 years on the airwaves with Women on Air, Outwaves gay radio, and Transistor Radio – a radio show for the trans community. Joanne currently owns and runs her own business, Fusion Hair.
