The International Women’s Day theme for 2020 is ‘Each for Equal’ and the event will host a panel of speakers on this theme.

For this event, we have expanded seating capacity for up to 500 people! We encourage you to bring along a friend and an ally to hear about amazing women, their experiences and their successes and help us celebrate this year.

 

Panel discussion and Q&A session

Ayla Hoeta and Atarau Pouwhare-Ellis

Ayla and Atarau both hail from South Auckland and are dedicated to supporting and empowering their communities through their work. They are featured in the in the ‘Humans of South Auckland' exhibition “Each for Equal: Our Stories” exhibition that celebrates and raises the voices of diverse Auckland women. Auckland Council is partnering with Humans of South Auckland on this exhibition which will be shown in several Auckland libraries.

Minnie Baragwanath MNZM

Minnie has recently been appointed to lead the Centre of Possibility @ AUT focussing on access innovation. Minnie was the founder and Chief Executive of Be. Lab (initially Be. Accessible founded by Minnie in 2011) which is a sister organisation to The Centre of Possibility @ AUT. Be. Lab, New Zealand's Access Innovation Lab, is a social change agency shifting Aotearoa from disability to possibility.

Minnie believes New Zealand can become a thought-leader, a visionary, and a global powerhouse in access innovation. She envisions a thriving nation whose leaders, thinkers, and makers are embracing the opportunities accessibility presents. Minnie has also gained widespread recognition and been nominated for and won many awards for her outstanding work as a champion for disabled people.

The panel discussion will be taking questions from attendees, so have your questions ready.

Networking

The second half of the event is a 'meet-and-mingle' and networking opportunity for all attendees from both central and local government, including representatives from the SSC’s Career Boards and women leaders from Auckland Council.
